My mother tongue isn't English, despite being married to an Irish man and living in English-speaking countries for years, writing an English article is harder than speaking English for me but I'm working on it, I know practice makes it better, just want to know if anyone has been through the similar stage like I'm now?
My mother tongue isn’t English either, and I didn’t even have the chance to travel to an English speaking country when I first got started with content sites. Language is important, but not that important when it comes to growing your business. I’d give English 3/10, and implementation 7/10 mindset 8/10 management skills 9/10 perseverance 10/10 if I were to weigh the factors in deciding the success of an authority site.
Just like speaking, writing is a skill that requires lots of practice. Don’t try to perfect it in the short time, you just can’t. The mindset I’d recommend you to switch about writing articles is — making fewer mistakes day by day, other than making much progress day by day. Read it twice and you’ll understand what I mean.
Plus, these years web users are less picky about whether you write correct sentences, they love storytelling, they love step-by-step guides, they love content that’s simple to digest and easy to implement. So the key is to structure the content in a way that suites your target audiences’ taste. And like Gael said in a video (not sure which one), that’s what most pro writers lack. I’ve been managing a team of ~10 writers/editors for more than three years and I totally agree with Gael. English grammar issues can be easily fixed by a tool like Grammarly or a real person like an editor, but your content ideas/structures won’t.
Final point: we have to admit it, no matter how much efforts we put in English writing, we just can’t write as good as pro native speakers, same with English speaking, if you grow up in a non-English country, your speaking ability won’t reach the highest level no matter how long you’ve been living in a English speaking country. But that’s okay, hire the pros to do the parts that they are best at and enjoy the most. You are in the right group with lots of peers who are good at hiring and managing, learn from them 🙂
Management Skills 9/10(管理技能)
